Choose the Perfect Side Dish!

A side dish is generally a smaller portion used to complement the taste of a main meal and to complement a main meal in nutrition.

So you have a main meal such as steak...and what would be a good complementary match? The obvious choice is potatoes of some kind and a vegetable - but there are many other choices available.

Match a complementary dish to a main meal by sight, smell and nutrition. Beans, for example, would not be a good complement

with steak for both are protein. I would go for a starch and a vegetable. How about a rice dish? Or maybe rice mixed with a vegetable? How about Italian risotto or pasta? Couscous?

What I'm trying to get at is to 'break the mold', to 'think out of the box' and you may just be pleasantly surprised...

Start with some of these Side Dish Recipes

Corn Meal and Creamed Corn Recipes - make great complementary dishes or even appetizers and there are not many recipes using creamed corn as a main ingredient that I have ever stumbled across...

Creamy Smooth Mashed Potatoes - are your mashed potatoes lumpy? If so then check out this link to see how to make without lumps - guaranteed!

Hearty Cooked Rice - a hearty rice dish cooked with chicken broth to give it flavor

BLT Dip - when you hear 'BLT' you probably think of a bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwich, right? Well, try this fantastic dip made from bacon, lettuce and tomato submitted by a friend of mine. It is absolutely wonderful!
